Rick Santorum, Satan and the Republican Party

Satan on his way to bring about the downfall o...

The media is all over words that Rick Santorum used back in 2008 concerning Satan and the influence Satan has on our nation. In a speech he gave at Ave Maria University in Florida, Santorum said “Satan [has been] attacking the great institutions of America, using those great vices of pride, vanity and sensuality as the root to attack all of the strong plants that [have] so deeply rooted in the American tradition.”

He said Satan had attacked academia, popular culture and the church.  I tend to agree with him on this point. But he also went on to say The body politic held up fairly well up until the last couple of decades but it is falling too.”

I hate to tell Mr. Santorum but Satan has been well involved in American politics or the “body politic” as he calls it, for a very long time. Satan’s influence has affected both sides; both Republican and Democrats and everything in between.

What I don’t think he even realizes is that Satan has well used Republicans and even the Religious Right to obtain the power that he has in government and he’s been at it for a very long time, even before Rick Santorum was even a sparkle in his mother’s eye.

Let’s not be naïve and believe that Satan has only worked on certain areas of America and the world. Satan has had his hand into influencing governments and government leaders here in America and everywhere else. He has used money effectively to influence lawmakers because their decision-making is so affected by money and it holds such a sway over people in general in fact.

Satan also has a record of influencing religious people and there’s clear scripture on it.  Look at the ministry of Jesus; who were the people who challenged Jesus more than anyone else; the Scribes and the Pharisees which were the Jewish Religious leaders in that day. Satan often pretends to be the “Protector of Righteousness” as his old job use to be the “Angel of Light” which was the protector of righteousness before he was cast down from Heaven.  He still tries to play that role to serve his agenda and he does that best by using righteous indignation through those who consider themselves religious. Religion is often a vehicle that makes it convenient for him to not only attack someone that he finds a threat and but also deceive the religious person he’s using for the attack and thereby compromise their salvation.

Jesus in his walk on this earth and through his ministry never pointed out or preached to sinners about their sins, instead he railed against those who were the religious leaders of that day. He saw them as being stumbling blocks, not stepping stones to salvation by their insistence to the word of the Law but not the spirit of the Law. They judged his ministry and sinners but at the same time, their hearts were black with sin. Jesus called them vipers and hypocrites which I think is fitting names for some of those who would use religion to push an agenda that doesn’t serve the purpose of Christ but the purpose of the wealthy instead.

Yes Santorum is right; Satan is alive and well in America but he’s been influencing politics, especially through the Republican Party for a very long time. When children go to bed hungry and the needy suffer because of the politics of those who would call themselves righteous as they serve the desires of the powerful and wealthy, Satan is definitely having his day and is very much alive.

Let me quote a scripture of Mr. Santorum which says it all:

What then? are we better than they? No, in no wise: for we have before proved both Jews and Gentiles, that they are all under sin;

 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.

 Their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips: Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness: Their feet are swift to shed blood: Destruction and misery are in their ways: And the way of peace have they not known: There is no fear of God before their eyes. Romans 3:9-18

I think it wise that Rick Santorum and his Republican friends should examine themselves when they’re looking for Satan in America.
